Document Name: Fallacy
Document Description: Scape-goating: in scape-goating problems are blamed on others either individually or collectively. "If the government hadn't passed that new tax law I would have more money in my pocket and could afford a better car"

Scare tactics: (appeal to fear fits here as well) using tactics to scare others. I am sure we as children have heard these (or at least I have) "don't make that face it will freeze like that" or "don't sit too close to the television it will ruin your eyes (or make you go blind),"

Sweeping generalization: (akin to hasty generalization) Generalizing about a group or items collectively, (i.e. one thing has this trait so they all do) "we all know that all Democrats want to do is raise taxes."

Slippery slope: proposing that one thing will cause another. "If we legalize marijuana we will be only one step away from all drugs being legal, everyone will begin using harder drugs and those will become legal too, the entire society will turn into drug addicts"

Begging the question: circular reasoning where the premise suggests the conclusion. "You are not showing any regret for being late and not eating dinner, you must have had take out"

Appeal to Confidence: an appeal to trust. A "come on lets go to the club" B " I don't know I have heard some bad things about it" A " oh come on I wouldn't steer you wrong, let's go"

Appeal to Guilt: (guilt trip) using guilt to attempt to sway one or more persons to accept your proposition. Wife to husband "how could you not go to the ball with me after all the hard work I have done to prepare for it?"
